From the owners

Welcome to Olde Millie. We grew up on the Cape, near the Cape, or have family on the Cape — Centerville, Osterville, Hingham, Sonoma (ok, not the Cape) — but all four of us are tied to Barnstable in some way, and Millie has been in our family for years. What we love most is the patio at sunset, the fire pit going, and Dowses Beach a ten-minute walk away. We hope she's all of that for you too.

The story

Meet Millie.

Olde Millie has been in our family for years. Our cousin owned her before us, and the four of us recently bought her together — two sisters and their husbands. Two of us grew up in Centerville, walking distance from this kitchen. Two came in by marriage, from Hingham and from as far as Sonoma. Our father and his brothers grew up here in Osterville. The rest of the family is still in the town of Barnstable.

The house itself is a classic Cape: cedar shingles, gambrel roof, red front door, white picket fence. Inside, she's been fully renovated — new kitchen with a quartz waterfall island, exposed brick wall, stainless appliances — but she still feels like the cottage she's always been.

Three bedrooms sleep six comfortably. A bright sunroom off the back catches morning light. The covered paver patio with the long dining table and string lights is where you'll spend your evenings. When you stay at Millie, you're in our hometown.

The house

What you actually get.

Three bedrooms, sleeps six.

Two queens and a third room with twins (or a king on request). All beds made up before arrival. Linens included. We kept the bedrooms TV-free on purpose.

A kitchen built to actually use.

Quartz waterfall island, exposed brick wall, stainless appliances, gas range, full coffee setup. Everything you need to cook the lobster you didn't know you were going to buy.

The patio is the point.

Covered paver patio with a long dining table, lounge chairs, gas grill, string lights overhead, and a fire pit for the evenings. Set back from the road, mature trees on three sides.

Millie's Twin Villa.

That little outdoor bar tucked off the patio? Family nickname. The cabinet's locked — but the bar is yours all week. Best seat in the yard.

Beach gear waiting.

Beach chairs, umbrella, towels, sand toys, and a Barnstable resident sticker for free entry to all the town beaches. Walking sticker not required for Dowses.

The local guide.

An actual booklet on the kitchen island with where we eat, where we send our parents, and where the locals park at Dowses. The kind of thing only family members would know.

What guests are saying

Early reviews.

"We've stayed in three different Osterville rentals over the years and Millie was hands down the best. The walk to Dowses was the deciding factor — the kids could go on their own. The kitchen is genuinely beautiful, the fire pit was a hit every night, and the owners were responsive in a way that made the week feel personal. We're already trying to lock in next summer."

The K. Family · Brookline, MA · July week

"As a family of six, we're always nervous about whether a 3BR will actually work. Millie did. The bedrooms are bigger than the listing makes them look, and the covered patio with the long table became the center of the week — every dinner there. The local guide on the kitchen island sent us to Crisp and Four Seas. Both worth it."

J. & M. Household · New York City · August week

"Booked Millie for our 25th anniversary week. We wanted somewhere quiet — and it was. The owners checked in once before arrival, then disappeared the way good hosts do. The Twin Villa was a delight we didn't know was coming. Highest recommendation."

D. & L. · Hingham, MA · June week

"Three families, twelve years of Cape rentals, and Millie is the first one we've all agreed to come back to. The fact that the owners actually grew up here is obvious in everything — the welcome letter, the local recs, the way the house is set up. Penuche from Four Seas is now a family tradition."
